Grinzing in the rain

Willkommen in Grinzing

Ciao a tutti!
Even though I live in Apulia and it’s July, the weather in these days is quite mild and it’s not too hot as usual. Some days ago it was so cloudy that it reminded me the weather that I found in Wien 2 years ago during my holiday, in particular the day I spent in Grinzing. It’ s a beautiful area far from the city centre and if you are in this wonderful town I suggest to visit this district and be sure that you wouldn’t regret.
Honestly, being a tourist, I didn’t know about the existence of Grinzing, but in my guidebook there was a walking tour along its streets ( and I like very much walking!). So, I took the map and the guidebook and I went to the underground ( I was in a little flat not far from the city centre) to Heiligenstadt station.
Heiligenstadt station

Once I went out of the station I found the Karl Marx Hof in front of me: it is a compound with a long ochre, clay and mallow-coloured facade and, to be sincere, it made me a bit upset, especially the statues that decorated it.

A quel punto lasciai perdere il percorso e continuai all’avventura!
After passing the Karl Marx Hof, always faithful to my guidebook, I walked along Heiligenstädter Strasse to arrive at the Heiligerstädter Park. I admit it: once I arrived in the park, even though I had my guide, I got lost! At that point, I left the itinerary go and I continued by chance! We can say that I relied upon my map to come back.
So, keeping walking, I found myself in Grinzinger Strasse. In this street you can find some plaques on buildings, which indicate that in that place a famous person lived: among them I found Einstein’s and Beethoven’s houses.

St Michael Church

After these houses I arrived in Grinzinger Allee ( out of curiosity I opened the guidebook: oh! I was again on the indicated itinerary): this street seemed out of time: there were the Trummelhof in baroque style and the Passauer Hof, which is an old wine bar which has inside the vestiges of a Romanesque building.

Back to the weather, I said that it wasn’t one of the best, actually it started raining dogs and cats! It was time for lunch too, so why don’t stopping in that cute country pub (where people produced artisan beer!) in front of me? This place was the Grinzinger Bräu. I took a serving of gulasch and a pint of beer: I don’t like very much hot dishes, but it was acceptable. It had been a really good and abundant lunch in a beautiful and relaxing atmosphere. Staff also was kind and helpful: this restaurant took the highest mark!

After lunch, storm also was finished, so I went wisely to the station to come back home, also because then it begun to rain again. On my way back I saw the peculiar trams of Wien and a mysterious alley in the green. It’s unnecessary to say that I ventured in it: at the end I discovered that I was walking through the path in the park indicated in the guidebook and I was unable to find! From there I quietly came back to the station and home under the rain.
Look at that dark sky...

I’m sorry for the lack of pictures, but, as I’ve already said, It rained a lot and it was difficult to take photos.
If you are in Wien, I suggest to spend a day far from the chaos of the centre and to enjoy the typical Austrian atmosphere of this district. You would feel like you are not in Wien!
I hope that you like this post.
